Rev. Nathan Esser joins FPC in November 2015!

Pastor Nate was born in Fredrick, MD, and was raised in Waynesboro, PA. He attended Shippensburg University where he earned a B.A. in Psychology. Following graduation, he was the Youth Program Director at the YMCA in Waynesboro, PA and also served as the Youth Director at Waynesboro Presbyterian Church.  During that time he felt called to full-time ministry and entered Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.  He attended there on the Presidential Merit Scholarship for Excellence, the highest award given to students who exhibited academic excellence in their undergraduate studies. He completed several internships at Second Presbyterian Church and also served as Student Chaplain at the Louisville Veteran’s Hospital.

Having demonstrated outstanding promise in ministry, Pastor Nate was awarded the Pastoral Ministry Award for his class.  Upon graduation, Nathan served as Interim Director of Youth Ministries at Second Presbyterian Church.  He was then called to be Head of Staff at Mars United Presbyterian Church in Mars, PA. There he has led the church through a visioning process which led to programming and physical changes.  This has resulted in both spiritual and numbers growth and a renewed vitality.

Pastor Nathan wrote in his Pastor Information Form “God calls me to a church that shares my passion to be drawn closer together as the body of Christ…I also feel called to serve a church that has a passion for mission”.  He embraces being “The Visible Face of Christ in Sioux Falls” and looks forward to building a team of staff and laity to fulfill that Vision.  In his spare time he enjoys spending time with family, exploring the outdoors, reading and sports.

He is joined in South Dakota by his wife, Jennifer and three sons; Bradley, Bryson, and Brenton.  The Essers also share their family love with their canine Lainey and feline Annie.

First Presbyterian Church is thrilled to have Pastor Nate join our church family!
